VP lance son label vintage

17th North Parade : il y a presque 50 ans, cette adresse à Kingston n'était qu'un glacier avant que Vincent Chin et sa femme Patricia n'y installent leur magasin de disques dans les années 60, le premier disquaire de Kingston. Bientôt, un studio allait naître : le Randy's Studio 17. Rapidement incontournable, le studio vit passer Dennis Brown ou Gregory Isaacs. C'est aussi là que les Wailers enregistrèrent une partie de "Catch A Fire". En 1979, Randy's deviendra VP (des initiales de Vincent et Patricia), déménageant son siège à New-York.
17th North Parade, c'est aujourd'hui le nom du label que VP a lancé cette année. Un label "vintage" consacré aux enregistrements accumulés pendant près de trente ans et rendu aujourd'hui disponible à coups de rééditions d'albums remasterisés, inédits en CD. Cette année, l'ouverture du catalogue s'est faite avec les sorties de Culture & Don Carlos ("Roots & Culture", 1982), Yellowman & Fathead ("Just Cool", 1982), Toyan ("Spar With Me", 1982), Little John ("Ghetto Youth", 1983) et Zap Pow (1973).
En 2008, le catalogue s'enrichira à raison de deux nouvelles sorties par mois. Sont déjà annoncés Byron Lee and the Dragonairs, "Gussie" Clarke, Donovan Germain, King Jammy, Sly & Robbie et Joe Gibbs.
